luck in making desirable discoveries by accident

During the past year many wonderful changes took place in my life. I left my established career behind, which was frightening to abandon that security and everything I thought I worked so hard for in college. I moved back home to northern California, a humbling and refreshing experience all at the same time. The deal came complete with my own room, free utilities, and built in roommies – my parents! I also started a relationship with my charming boyfriend who makes me so happy and challenges me everyday. I can trace all of these life changes to a serendipitous neck injury I dealt with last April. Who knew that a neck muscle spasm that sent me to the hospital would be so life altering? This injury helped shift my life into perspective. I guess you know that you really hate your job when you’re actually excited to be hurt, in a neck brace, and unable to check your BlackBerry. My job and the stress associated with it were truly taking a toll on my physical health and well-being. Thankfully I was home with my family during the injury, but it scared me to imagine how the scenario would have played out in LA without family and friends close by at the moment. Another silver lining of the neck injury was the perfect opportunity to stalk, um I mean, reconnect with an acquaintance who is now my boyfriend. He needed some fairly obvious signs and luckily my pain medication gave me the courage to deliver!

This blog, serendipity, is about taking time to notice serendipity in our lives. Just like my unexpected neck injury in April, it is about seeing the good in all situations. As I begin a new chapter there are many things I want to set out and learn; some topics are planned as a result of my own curiosity and others I look forward to discovering when our paths cross. I want to highlight people, places, restaurants, fashion, activities, moments, and ideas that make a positive impact on me. Hopefully this narration of my serendipitous discoveries will inspire others to pay attention to their own serendipity and the sometimes less obvious lessons in life.
